OpenGulf

Data Visualization · Digital Humanities · Interactive Maps

OpenGulf is a set of interconnected digital projects focusing on historical documentation about the Gulf. Launched in the Arts and Humanities Division of NYU Abu Dhabi, the projects publish open historical datasets, corpora, and digital exhibits aimed at opening Gulf Studies to digital historical exploration, analysis, and interpretation.

With OpenGulf, I worked on data analysis and manipulation of annotations made on historical texts, visualizing the data through interactive maps. I also trained an HTR model using Transkribus and FromthePage to transcribe handwritten Gulf archives from the 19th century, and contributed to the website's design and development.
